I inherited my sister's Toni

Original, or not original?

Original, or not original?

My sister had the 19 1/2" Toni walker doll, which lived in our attic at home, then her attic for years (my sister was 18 years older than me.

She is in excellent condition (with the exception of her walking mechanism no longer working) -- clean, bright shiny hair, beautiful face paint, etc.

I am in the process of cleaning her, restyling the hair, etc. to display at my sister's memorial dinner. I have cleaned the clothing (that was the only dirty part) with products from Twin Pines of Maine, and they turned out well.

I have a question for all you collectors: My sister says the outfit is original, however there is no "Toni" tag. I will attach a picture. There is no built in slip, but rather built in panties. A pinafore is separate.

Part of me wonders if my aunt made some outfits for my sister's doll and this is the one that "survived." Any clues? I've not seen a picture of one like this anywhere. I know the socks are replacements. My sister had 2 pair of them (one still on the card!), but there was only 1 of the plain "Toni" sock in the box.

If it's possible, I'll add a picture of my beauty when I'm finished with her! Thanks for reading, and maybe answering!

Dress or doll?
by: Bobbi

The doll is marked on the neck and back of head like any other Toni -- she IS a Toni doll. I still had her box, all her accessories, and even her hang tag. The only thing in question is the dress and pinafore (pictured above), which my sister said are original, but are NOT tagged.

Is she tagged? Check eBay and Etsy, and Judith Izen's book on Ideal Dolls. Also, try Doll Collecting at About.com; just Google the title.

Thank you

Thanks, I am leaning toward thinking it's original...I just wish I knew. I have finished restoring her and she is just beautiful! I wish there was a way for me to add a picture of her!

Many pictures, I am sure you have looked them up. Maybe Ideal Corporation can tell you. Of course if she said it was original, I would go with that. Lovely doll, I had the 14 inch one.
