DREAM WORLD DOLLS

The doll world has not given enough credit to these wonderful composition dolls of the 1940's. Relatively inexpensive, they were mass produced for a market nearly all could afford. The clothing is stapled to the body which accounts for the many examples found in very good to excellent condition. They are small, easy for a child to handle, and costumed in attire that defines their name............"Dream World". Although the dolls are unmarked, they are sometimes found with their original paper tags which attest to the idea that dreams could be realized at a lesser price.

International costumes fashioned of satins, net and lace are attributed to the Dream World Doll. The dolls wear tiny lace tie oil cloth shoes and are a demure 12" in height.

Frequent variations in ethnic costume make them even more appealing.

eBay has a rather large set of listings of vintage Dream World dolls for sale, if you are interested in a purchase, or to find values, click here----(if looking for values, it is necessary to register with eBay)

Painted side glancing eyes, a swirl of mohair for a wig, jointed at the neck, shoulders and hips. Although considered to be a "cheap" composition, Dream World Dolls generally retain their smooth surface and complexion better than some of the more expensive composition dolls.

Storybook type or dolls suggesting historical characters are also some of the Dream World Doll creations. Long curls of white mohair represent the powdered wigs which accent the long "court" gowns.

The Dream World Bride is another which is frequently found. After all, a child of the 40's dreamt of a fairy tale wedding.

The Dream World nurse wears a satin gown and cape with the red cross emblem on her hat.

There are several other companies that produced a small doll similar to Dream World but the facial mold is a bit wider in size and can be easily recognized when dolls are side by side.

Dream World Dolls can be acquired at a very reasonable price in todays doll market. Auctions on ebay end with the lucky bidder paying in a range of 10.00 to 25.00 for the dolls that are infrequently found. A doll found with the original box and tags will demand a higher price.
