felt fabric doll

felt fabric doll

Fabric body, felt arms, leg and molded felt face.

The doll is about 16" tall, felt dress, cloth body & felt arms and legs.

I figure she is from around 1930 or earlier as she belonged to my Great Aunt who passed away in 1970. she was in her 80's then.

People have told me she looks like a Lenci but there are no marks on her other that the one on her undergarment, nothing on her feet, back, neck or head. Her head is in sad shape but her body is OK for her age.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know a lot about these dolls except every time I have, they are very old dolls believe to be French crafted. Also, if authentic can be of great value. As long as they are in very good to excellent condition.

I have tried to look at your side ways doll which is difficult. Hard on the neck also!

So I visit eBay in the Lenci section. I listed three dolls to study. 250633074988 a 1926 Lenci, 200474184836 a 1930's Lenci with lots of pictures and 270569148872, another 1920's Lenci.

Most of the of the original costumes were made of felt too. Dolls & clothes were/are moth prone. The clothes had cloth and paper tags marked Lenci and the foot was often marked Lenci also. Dolls that are dirty or faded bring only 1/4 the value of a good doll. Does your doll have a thumb and four fingers?

Do not wash a Lenci doll. While doing doll appraisals last April, two original Lenci's were brought in. One was fantastic and only had a couple of tiny moth nibbles. The second one had many moth holes on the doll and clothes plus a so-called doll hospital SCRUBBED the legs of the doll. You should have seen the felt legs after a scrubbing. SAD, very, very sad.

So go to Ebay and start hunting! Diane
